If you are a Jammu student who fumbled the earlier admission rounds, sat one out, or simply landed a college you are not thrilled about — the Higher Education Department (HED) has just handed you a second chance, and the clock is loud. The department has announced a Spot Round for Undergraduate and Integrated Postgraduate admissions in Government Degree Colleges across Jammu & Kashmir for the 2026-27 session, and the fresh registration window is open from 23 June and closes on 26 June 2026.
That is a short runway. Here is exactly how it works and what you need to do before the portal closes.
What the spot round actually is
Think of the spot round as the system's way of filling the seats that are still empty after the regular rounds — and giving leftover candidates a final, real shot. It runs through two parallel streams:
- Walk-in admissions for programmes that still have major vacancies, where you turn up at the college for document verification and on-the-spot allotment.
- Round-3 Direct System Allotment through the centralized JK Admissions Portal for the remaining courses, where the system allots seats based on your preferences and merit.
The practical takeaway: you register once on the portal, submit your college and programme preferences, and then follow whichever stream applies to the course you want.
Who is eligible
This round is deliberately wide. According to the HED, you can participate if you are:
- A candidate who never registered in the earlier rounds.
- Someone seeking a walk-in admission to a vacant programme.
- An already-admitted student who wants to upgrade to a better college or programme.
- An applicant who was unsuccessful in the earlier rounds.
- A candidate with rectifiable deficiencies in an earlier application.
One important exclusion: students who voluntarily cancelled a confirmed admission are not eligible for this round. If that is you, this window is unfortunately closed.
The full timeline — mark every date
This is where most students slip, because the spot round has several moving deadlines, not just one. Here is the sequence the department has laid out:
- Fresh registration & preferences: 23 June – 26 June
- Walk-in document verification: 25 June – 2 July
- Round-3 allotment list: 29 June
- Physical verification / reporting at college: 29 June – 2 July
- Fee deposit deadline: 1 July
In other words: getting allotted a seat is only step one. You then have to physically report and verify your documents, and crucially, pay your fee by 1 July — or the seat lapses and goes back into the pool. Plenty of students get the allotment SMS, relax, and lose the seat on the fee deadline. Don't be that story.
What it costs
Fresh applicants — those registering for the first time in this round — pay a non-refundable application fee of ₹200. Candidates who had already applied in the previous rounds do not pay any additional fee to participate in the spot round.
The official word
Director of Colleges Dr Sheikh Ajaz Bashir urged candidates to complete all admission-related formalities within the stipulated timelines and to keep monitoring the portal for updates. That second part is not boilerplate — allotment lists and college-level notices during a spot round can move fast, and the portal is the only place they are official.
Your 26-June game plan
- Today: log in to the JK Admissions Portal, complete fresh registration if needed, and lock in your college/programme preferences. Be realistic — list courses that still have vacancies, not just dream seats.
- Keep ready: your Class 10 and 12 marksheets, category certificate (if claiming reservation), domicile, and a couple of passport photos — both the digital scans and physical copies for walk-in verification.
- Set two alarms: one for the 26 June registration close, and one for the 1 July fee deadline. They are the two points where seats are won or lost.
A government degree college seat in Jammu is still one of the most affordable, accessible routes into higher education in the city. If you have been on the fence, this is the window — and it shuts on Friday.
