Two weekend days, every polling station in the Union Territory. That is the offer from J&K's Chief Electoral Officer, Sanjeev Verma, who announced a special voter enrolment drive for Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October 2026, from 9 am to 5 pm each day.
What is on offer
- Enrolment for people not yet on the electoral roll.
- Updating or correcting details already on the roll.
- Help at the polling station from the Booth Level Officer (BLO) posted there.
Which form is which
Reports on the drive name three forms. Form 6 is for enrolment, Form 7 is for deletion, and Form 8 is for correction or updating of details. They can be filed in person at the polling station or digitally through the Voter Helpline App.
Who the drive is aimed at
BLOs have also been told to go door to door to find eligible people who may have been left off the rolls. The priority groups named are youth, first-time voters, women and persons with disabilities. For a student or early-career resident in Jammu, who may have turned 18 recently or moved for college or work, this is the group most likely to have a gap or an outdated address on the roll.
What has not been said
The announcements do not spell out the age cut-off, the qualifying date or the documents to bring. Check those on the Election Commission of India's voter portal or the J&K Chief Electoral Officer's website before you go; this article does not guess at them. The CEO described the weekend as the start of a regular weekend voter-facilitation initiative, but no later dates have been announced.
The CEO's stated aim is that no eligible voter is left behind. He asked citizens to visit their nearest polling station on 10 or 11 October.
