Four points down after two ends, then six 10s in a row of the next ends. That is how Sheetal Devi turned the women's compound individual final at the Asian Para Games in Nagoya on Thursday, 22 October.

She beat Singapore's Alim Nur Syahidah 142-139 at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square, repeating her Asian Para Games gold from Hangzhou 2023; that final was also against Alim, who lost it by two points.

How the final went

Alim led by four after two ends. Sheetal then shot six 10s, three of them Xs, over the next two ends to go two points ahead. In the last three-arrow end she shot three 9s for 27; Alim scored 26 (9, 8, 9). Daily Excelsior, our only source for the final's end-by-end score, reports it as 142-139.

Three medals so far

  • Women's compound individual: gold.
  • Compound mixed team with Toman Kumar: gold, earlier on the same day.
  • Women's doubles with Payal Nag of Odisha: silver.

That is two golds and a silver at these Games for the 19-year-old world champion from Jammu and Kashmir, who competes without arms. Why it matters at home: she is the clearest proof for young archers and para-athletes in the Jammu region that the road to a continental podium exists.

We covered her earlier Nagoya score: Sheetal Devi equals the para archery world record with 704. The photo shows the mixed-team gold with Toman Kumar.
