J&K GCC Summit 2026: What a Global Capability Centre Is, and What It Could Mean for Jammu Graduates

Two days, six panels, 300-plus expected delegates, and one acronym that most graduates in Jammu have never needed to say out loud. The J&K GCC Summit 2026 runs on 9 and 10 October at the Mandapam, IIM Jammu, Jagti, and its whole subject is the Global Capability Centre, or GCC.

What is a GCC?

A GCC is an in-house centre that a company based elsewhere sets up to do part of its own work: technology, analytics, finance operations, engineering, research. It is not an outsourcing vendor; the staff work for the company itself. The summit page says there are 2,117-plus GCCs operating in India, employing more than 1.9 million professionals, with 220-plus of them in Tier II and III cities. It credits those figures to Zinnov, NASSCOM, EY, BCG and McKinsey, and they are the organisers' numbers, not ours.

Why Jammu is in the conversation

The organisers' case for J&K rests on four points: a young, educated talent pool, policy-led incentives under a J&K GCC Policy 2026, lower operating costs than the big metros, and quality of life. The summit's own words are that it will "unlock J&K's GCC potential" and catalyse investment. Whether any company commits is not something the programme can promise, and no announcement of one has been made on the pages we read.

What is on the programme

  • Day one, 9 October: inaugural session at 10:00 am; panels on industry-government collaboration, India's GCC growth story, and investment, employment and growth; a cultural evening.
  • Day two, 10 October: panels on GCC innovation and technology (the Tier-2 and Tier-3 advantage), talent and workforce transformation, and a roadmap for making J&K a GCC destination; a valedictory session at 4:00 pm.

The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, gives the inaugural address and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah the valedictory one, according to the programme. The summit is organised by IIM Jammu with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, and KPMG in India lists it among its events.

The question for a 22-year-old

The panel titled "Talent and Workforce Transformation" is where the career angle sits. A centre like this hires graduates in bulk, and cities such as Jammu compete on whether enough of them have the right skills. The programme does not say which roles, how many jobs or which companies are in play, and it does not say whether students can attend. Registration runs through a payments portal on the IIM Jammu summit page; the fee is not stated on the page we read. Queries go to gcc@iimj.ac.in or 0191-2741411.

JammuBeat will report on what is actually announced once the summit closes. Until then, treat claims about job numbers as projections, not offers.
