Missed a regular college seat this season? You have until 18 August to get into a University of Jammu degree through distance mode without paying a rupee extra. Apply after that and the university starts adding late fees, in slabs, until the door closes on 31 August.
The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) at the University of Jammu issued two extension notifications on 10 August 2026, one for undergraduate admissions and one for postgraduate. Here is exactly what they say.
Undergraduate: B.A and B.Com, Semester I
Notification No. CDOE/UG/26/2086-2105, dated 10 August 2026, extends admission to B.A and B.Com Semester I (Non-CBCS) in ODL mode for the 2026-27 session. The revised schedule runs in four bands:
10 to 18 August 2026 — ₹12,780. No late fee.
19 to 23 August 2026 — ₹12,780 + ₹420.
24 to 28 August 2026 — ₹12,780 + ₹810.
29 to 31 August 2026 — ₹12,780 + ₹3,520, and only with the Vice-Chancellor's special permission.
That last band is worth reading twice. Waiting an extra fortnight costs you ₹3,520, which is more than a quarter of the course fee itself, and it is not automatic — it needs a special permission you may not get.
Postgraduate: ten subjects, a gentler penalty
Notification No. CDOE/PG/2026/241-255, also dated 10 August 2026, extends PG Semester I admissions in Commerce, Dogri, Economics, Education, English, Hindi, Political Science, Punjabi, Sociology and Urdu, all through open and distance learning.
8 to 18 August 2026 — online forms, no late fee.
19 to 25 August 2026 — online forms with a late fee of ₹320.
Note the asymmetry: the PG surcharge is a flat ₹320 and the window shuts on 25 August, a week earlier than the UG one. If you are eligible for both and dithering, the PG deadline is the tighter of the two.
CDOE has separately extended admission to its online Master's programmes in M.Com and M.A. English as well. That is a different notification from the ODL one above, so check its own dates on the CDOE site rather than assuming they match.
The rule that catches people out
Filling the online form is not the end of it. The UG notification is blunt about this: a hard copy of the form must be submitted within five days of filling it online, and this is mandatory. It also says no request to submit a hard copy will be entertained after the deadline.
So the real deadline for an 18 August applicant is not 18 August. It is 18 August for the form, and five days from whenever you filled it for the printout to physically reach the university. Fill the form on the last afternoon and you are relying on the post office. Fill it this week and the hard copy is an errand, not a crisis.
Is a distance degree worth it?
For a certain kind of student in Jammu, yes, and the honest answer is that it depends entirely on why you are doing it.
It works well if you are already working, or preparing full-time for JKSSB, JKPSC, SSC or a banking exam, and you need a recognised degree in hand without the attendance load of a regular college. A B.A or B.Com from the University of Jammu is a University of Jammu degree, and for the eligibility line on most recruitment notifications — "graduation from a recognised university" — that is what matters. The ten PG subjects on offer include Dogri, Punjabi and Urdu, which is a genuinely useful list for anyone eyeing school teaching or the language-based Assistant Professor routes.
It works badly if you were counting on the campus part: labs, a placement cell, the friends and the noticeboard. Distance mode gives you the qualification and very little of the surroundings. Be clear with yourself which of the two you are actually buying.
How to apply
Go to distanceeducationju.in — the CDOE portal — and open the admission link for your programme. The PG notification also points to the main university site, jammuuniversity.ac.in.
Fill the online form and pay. Keep the payment reference.
Print the completed form, attach the documents it asks for, and get the hard copy in within five days.
Keep the acknowledgement. It is the only proof you applied inside the window.
