If your Thursday route runs through Jammu's old city, Parade, Shakti Nagar, New Plot or Nagrota, build in extra time today. The City Jammu Traffic Police has issued an advisory for four Janmashtami Shobha Yatras on 3 September 2026, with restrictions and diversions to be applied as the processions move.
Where the first yatra will move
The main procession begins at 3:00 pm onwards from the Geeta Bhawan and Parade Ground area, moving through Shalimar, Indira Chowk, Hari Market, Raghunath Temple, Residency Road, City Chowk, Purani Mandi, Jain Bazar, Chowk Chabutra, Pacca Danga and Moti Bazar before concluding back towards Geeta Bhawan and Raghunath Temple.
Traffic approaching Raghunath Mandir from Indira Chowk/Hari Market is to be diverted towards J.P. Chowk. Traffic from D.C. Office towards Shahidi Chowk is to be diverted towards Gujjar Nagar Bridge, while vehicles from Parade towards Raj Tilak Road/Link Road are to use the PCR Lane/Flyover route. The advisory also lists diversions around Denzigate, Kanak Mandi, Rani Park, Panjtirthi, Purani Mandi and Library Chowk.
Three more routes are active
4:00 pm onwards: Shakti Nagar's Main Bazaar–Gurha Morh–Nath Chowk loop, with diversions near Gurha Morh, Shakti Nagar and Topi Pull.
5:00 pm onwards: Bantal–Talli Morh–Vikas Nagar–Sarwal–New Plot, with a temporary diversion for traffic approaching New Plot/Kali Mata Morh from the Amphalla side.
3:00 pm onwards: Rani Park, Trikuta Nagar–Main Market Nagrota–Kandoli Mandir, Nagrota. Restrictions here will be applied according to ground conditions.
What to do before you leave
Do not treat the start time as an exact road-closure time: the advisory says restrictions and diversions will operate during the movement of the yatras. Avoid the listed corridors if you can, leave earlier for classes or work, and follow the directions of traffic personnel on duty.
