J&K needed only a draw. They were 41 runs ahead on first innings, and the Irani Cup would have gone to the Ranji champions on that lead. On Sunday, 4 October, they were bowled out for 111 and Rest of India had won by 167 runs in Srinagar.

The scorecard

  • Rest of India: 237 and 319
  • Jammu & Kashmir: 278 and 111 all out, chasing 279

According to The Tribune's report, Mukesh Kumar took 6 for 33 in J&K's second innings and Akash Deep took 3 for 25. J&K's openers Shubham Khajuria (32) and Qamran Iqbal (32) shared a 54-run opening stand, and then the innings broke up after lunch: six wickets fell for 22 runs in nine overs. In the first innings, Greater Kashmir's report names Paras Dogra (75) and Abdul Samad (57) among J&K's main scorers.

Why it still matters in Jammu

J&K hosted the Irani Cup as Ranji Trophy champions, which we covered in 41 Runs Up, Eight Teams Deep and in the squad update. The Tribune notes that Akash Deep's performance puts him in the conversation for the New Zealand tour.
