Jammu is on the global academic map this week. IIM Jammu is hosting the 13th AIM–AMA Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortium and International Marketing Conference (DC-IMC 2026) from 1 to 4 July 2026 at its Jagti campus — a four-day gathering that has brought around 200 scholars, journal editors, researchers, industry experts and doctoral students from India and abroad to the city.
For young people in Jammu who are used to seeing the biggest conferences happen in Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru, that is no small thing. The event signals that a management institute headquartered in their own city can convene a genuinely international academic conversation — and it puts Jammu’s name alongside the kind of research networks that shape how marketing is taught and practised worldwide.
Two events in one
DC-IMC 2026 is really two flagship engagements rolled together. The first is the Doctoral Consortium (1–3 July), where 50 outstanding PhD scholars from premier institutions across India are being mentored by internationally renowned faculty, distinguished journal editors and leading marketing scholars. Consortium sessions include master classes, ‘global cafés’, editor meetings, manuscript development workshops, career-guidance conversations and networking lounges — the sort of close-quarters mentorship that can shape an early researcher’s entire career.
The second is the International Marketing Conference (3–4 July), built around keynote addresses, technical sessions, research presentations, panel discussions, practitioner roundtables and expert feedback across six contemporary research tracks. This year’s theme — “New Age Marketing in the AI Era: Innovation, Technology & Human Interaction” — goes straight to the question every marketing student is already living with: how do you sell, persuade and build trust in a world where artificial intelligence is rewriting the rules?
Why the theme hits home
For readers in their teens and twenties, ‘marketing in the AI era’ is not an abstraction. It is the algorithm deciding which reel you see, the chatbot handling your complaint, and the targeted ad that seems to read your mind. The conference’s framing — balancing innovation and technology with human interaction — captures the exact tension that will define careers in advertising, branding, digital media and product management over the next decade.
By putting that debate on a Jammu stage, IIM Jammu is giving local students and aspiring researchers a rare front-row view of where the field is heading. Even those not presenting papers benefit from the spillover: the visiting editors and scholars, the exposure to cutting-edge research questions, and the simple proof that world-class academic work can happen here.
The partners behind it
The conference is organised in collaboration with the Academy of Indian Marketing (AIM) and the AMA Sheth Foundation, USA, bringing together globally renowned marketing scholars, distinguished journal editors, eminent faculty mentors, doctoral researchers and industry practitioners from leading universities and business schools in India and abroad. IIM Jammu Director Prof. B.S. Sahay highlighted the significance of hosting an event of this scale, positioning the institute as a serious node in the international marketing-research community.
A campus growing into its ambitions
IIM Jammu’s permanent campus at Jagti, Nagrota — spread across roughly 200 acres and perched dramatically on a hillside — has increasingly become a venue for national and international academic events, from entrepreneurship development programmes to research conferences. Each such gathering deepens the institute’s footprint and, by extension, the city’s reputation as an education destination rather than merely a transit point on the way to the Valley.
For Jammu’s youth, the takeaway is aspirational but concrete: the doctoral scholars being mentored here today are the marketing professors and thought leaders of tomorrow, and some of them are being shaped on a campus in their own backyard. Conferences like DC-IMC 2026 are how a city quietly moves up the academic ladder — one prestigious event at a time.
