IIM Jammu and Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jalandhar signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 21 July to build a long-term academic partnership spanning research, faculty and student exchange, and joint executive education — a pact both institutes are framing as a step toward the kind of management-plus-engineering combined learning the National Education Policy 2020 pushes for.
The MoU was signed by IIM Jammu Director Prof B S Sahay and NIT Jalandhar Director Prof Binod Kumar Kanaujia, with deans and senior administrators from both institutes present: Prof Jabir Ali (Dean, Faculty & Research) and Prof Nitin Upadhyay (Dean, Academics) from IIM Jammu, Prof Raman Bedi (Dean, Academics) from NIT Jalandhar, plus Brigadier (Retd) Bhupinder Singh Kang and Arup Bhattacharya representing IIM Jammu's administration.
What's actually on the table
Beyond the usual MoU language, the partnership commits both institutes to faculty and student exchange, joint teaching, shared research centres, and academic credit mobility — meaning coursework or research time at one institute could eventually count toward a degree at the other. The two will also jointly run Executive Education and Management Development Programmes for industry, government departments and public-sector undertakings.
The more consequential piece for prospective students: both sides say they're exploring integrated or jointly-conferred degree programmes — pairing NIT Jalandhar's engineering strength with IIM Jammu's management curriculum — though that remains subject to regulatory approval and isn't running yet.
Part of a wider push
This is IIM Jammu's second cross-institutional MoU in as many months, following a partnership with NIT Srinagar in June — part of a broader pattern of the institute building ties across engineering and management education in the region rather than operating as a standalone B-school.
For current and prospective students at either campus, the near-term impact will likely show up first as exchange semesters and joint MDP electives, with any combined-degree track a longer-term prospect pending approvals.
