Who is asking, and when?
The J&K Cine Association (JKCA) met at Kalakendra, Jammu, on 21 September, Greater Kashmir reports. Its president, Dharminder Kohli, thanked organisers for honouring Dogri cinema: directors, producers and other artists of 12 Dogri films were recognised at Wave Mall during the International Film Festival of J&K.
The four asks
- Hold the second International Film Festival of J&K in Jammu.
- Dedicated theatre space and adequate screening time for regional films.
- Subsidy schemes for film production.
- Industry status for the film sector, with financial incentives.
What the government has said
The report carries no government response to these demands, and we could not find one. These are the association's positions, not decisions.
What it means for a young filmmaker
Screening time and funding are the two gaps a first-time Dogri filmmaker feels most: without a regular screen, there is no audience to prove a film works. The association also named Baljit Singh Raina as its new chairman, filling the vacancy left by the death of former chairman Mushtaq Kak. Our coverage of the festival itself has the background.
