If you have a Class 10 pass and an ITI certificate sitting in a drawer, the Railways has a large recruitment drive with a deadline that is almost here. The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) is hiring for Technician posts under notification CEN 02/2026, and the online application window closes on 29 July 2026 (fees can be paid until 31 July). For Jammu jobseekers, applications are handled through the RRB Jammu–Srinagar region.
The numbers
The drive covers roughly 6,557 vacancies nationwide, split into two categories: about 6,242 Technician Grade III posts and 323 Technician Grade I (Signal) posts. These are permanent central-government railway jobs — steady pay, job security and benefits — which is exactly why they draw huge numbers of applicants every year. For a Jammu jobseeker with a technical qualification, they are among the most realistic government openings going right now, and the technician role is a genuine foot in the door to a long railway career.
Who can apply
- Technician Grade III: Class 10 (matriculation) pass plus an ITI certificate in the relevant trade from an NCVT/SCVT-recognised institute (or an equivalent). Age: 18–30 years as on 1 July 2026.
- Technician Grade I (Signal): a higher technical bar — a relevant engineering diploma/degree in the specified branches. Age: 18–33 years as on 1 July 2026.
Age relaxations apply for reserved categories as per rules. Always confirm the exact trade and qualification list against the official notification before paying the fee.
How selection works
Recruitment runs in three stages: a Computer-Based Test (CBT), followed by Document Verification (DV) and a Medical Examination (ME). The CBT typically tests mathematics, general intelligence and reasoning, general science and general awareness, so that is where your effort should go now — solving previous-year papers and taking timed mock tests is the single most useful thing you can do this week.
Before the window shuts
Apply online through the official RRB application portal, and cross-check every detail on the RRB Jammu–Srinagar site. Keep your matriculation and ITI certificates, a valid photo ID, a recent photograph and your signature ready in the required formats. Do not leave the payment to the final hour — portals slow down badly near deadlines, and a failed transaction on 29 July is not a risk worth taking. With the closing date almost here, this is a this-week task, not a next-week one. If you qualify, block out an evening, gather your documents and get the form submitted well before 29 July.
