Seventeen gold, eight silver, thirteen bronze: J&K's junior Thang-Ta team came home from its own backyard second only to Manipur, the sport's home state.

The 32nd Junior National Thang-Ta Championship ran from 27 to 30 September 2026 at the Multipurpose Indoor Hall, Polo Ground, Srinagar, with 26 states taking part. It was organised by the J&K Thang-Ta Association with the J&K Sports Council. Manipur finished as overall champion, and J&K received the Runner-Up Trophy at the closing ceremony, where winning teams and outstanding athletes were felicitated.

The count

That is 38 medals in total. The report does not name individual medallists, does not say how many came from the Jammu division and gives no other team's tally, so we have not guessed at any of it.

Why it matters

Thang-Ta is a martial art from Manipur that uses a sword (thang) and spear (ta). A runners-up finish among 26 states shows J&K juniors competing at the top of a sport most young Jammu residents have never tried. If you want to try it, the J&K Thang-Ta Association is the body to ask.
